The ‘blockchain’ technology behind crypto currencies like Bitcoin, means that people can now put unique signatures into digital art pieces to prove authenticity and scarcity. It’s a new digital version of a signature or authenticity certificate you might get with physical art.

It means that digital photos, drawings, gifs, videos etc. are now being collected and traded just like postage stamps, sports cards, classic cars and physical art have been for centuries.

Some websites to buy and sell digital art exploded in popularity, and it appears to be the very beginning of a massive shift in the art market as a whole.

NFT Art is typically released by artists in batches called ‘Drops’. A limited number of copies of each artworks are created, called Editions. Each copy has a unique digital signature to prove it’s scarcity and authenticity. They can be owned and traded on a global marketplace in a secure and easy way.

An Open Edition is when the artist creates one edition for any collector that chooses to buy one within a specific time window. When the time window passes, no more copies will be made. The scarcity of the work is therefore determined by the market demand at the time rather than the artist.

How many of each artwork exist, the owner’s unique ID and it’s sale price is all publicly available information.

“This is an opportunity to reach a new audience, experiment with motion and complement my gallery shows, books and exhibitions.

I’m excited to be pushing forward this dramatic new chapter for the art world, which could revolutionise so much.

As an art collector for 30 years, I see so much promise in this for artists and collectors, it opens up so many possibilities. At one point photography wasn’t considered fine art by the art world, look how things have changed. This evolution will be quicker and even more fantastic.”

The first drop will be on MakersPlace on 13th April. The second drop will follow a month later on 14th April on Nifty Gateway.

We recommend researching the NFT art market to prepare ahead of the drop. Then sign up to MakersPlace and Nifty Gateway to get ready for the drops.

Pricing will start at $499. Payment can be made in USD or Ether.
